Classes

Glencastle Irish Dancers, Inc. offers classes for children and adults. Classes are offered from Beginner to Championship levels.

At Glencastle, our philosophy is to teach in a friendly and positive way increasing a dancer's self-confidence. We encourage communication between the dancers, parents and teaching staff.

Regardless of the direction you choose, the ultimate goal of Glencastle is to provide a learning atmosphere that is healthy and fun. We strive to instill a sense of belonging, friendships, school spirit and confidence in each and every dancer that enters our classroom.

Directions: From 94 East or West - Exit at 68th-70th Street. Take 70th Street South to Washington. Turn Left (East) on Washington. Take the immediate right into the West Allis Center. Follow the driveway to the last entrance at the back of the building.

Children's Classes

Beginner classes are offered to children ages 5 and older. Dancers at the Beginner level will attend class once a week for one hour. Beginners are taught the basics of Irish step dancing, including drills and exercises to develop their form. Dancers will be taught both traditional and original solo material created for the beginner level dancer.

The activity of the class will include foot positioning, muscle development, exercises and short drills to help them understand key dance moves. Repetition is a key factor at the beginning level.

Dancers in their first year with Glencastle are invited to participate in parades and competitions as well as Milwaukee Irish Fest. A costume is needed for competitions and performances.

Beyond the Beginner level, instructors will continue to enforce the basics while developing and teaching more difficult and challenging drills, exercises, movements and steps. Dancers participate in parades, performances and competitions.

Glencastle dancers have competed at regional, national and world level competitions in both solo and team dancing.

Adult Classes

Our adult classes are fun and energetic. We structure the classes for adults of all ages and abilities. The activity of the class includes both individual and group dancing. Classes are held one day a week. Besides attending our classes, our adult dancers are given the opportunity to compete and perform if they so choose. Many of our adult dancers also have children in Glencastle and are able to compete and perform with their child.

Glencastle Adult dancers have competed in the Adult team category at the Midwest Irish Dance Championship and the National Irish Dance Championship. Our adult teams have seen great success at the competition level receiving the following placements:
